The crown of this tree is wide and conical. The tree grows fast and has heart-shaped, topside glossy green leaves. The flower or catkin appears just after winter and are followed in September by the pine cone fruit or strobiles which remain on the tree throughout the winter. The roots are shallow, its wind resistance is good and it is tolerant of paving.
